A non-vegetarian Indian dish in the spirit of Ooty cooking — Dahi-wali Catfish Soup brings a dahi-wali touch with a classic soup finish. About 41 minutes from fridge to table.

Ingredients

  • Yogurt1 cup, whisked
  • Ginger Garlic Paste1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder1/2 tsp
  • Vegetable Oil2 tbsp
  • Catfish450 g, steaks

Optional extras

  • Fresh Cilantro2 tbsp, chopped
  • Curry Leaves1 sprig

Instructions

    Heat oil or ghee in a heavy kadhai over medium heat.

    Add cumin or mustard seeds and let them crackle.

    Saute onion until golden, then stir in ginger-garlic paste.

    Add tomatoes and powdered spices; cook until oil separates.

    Add the main ingredient with a splash of water; cover and simmer.

    Uncover, adjust salt and spice, and cook to the desired consistency.

    Finish with garam masala and fresh cilantro.

Chef's tip

Rest 5 minutes off heat so the spices settle.
