Bread Chaat
Toasted bread cubes built into chaat, the five-minute hack of hostel kitchens. Yogurt-flooded, chutney-streaked and unapologetically messy. Perfect as an evening snack with masala chai nearby.
Ingredients
- Yogurt2 cups, whisked
- Saltto taste
- Tamarind Paste2 tbsp
- Chaat Masala1 tsp
- Red Chili Powder1/2 tsp
- Roasted Cumin1 tsp
- Bread4 slices
Optional extras
- Fresh Cilantro2 tbsp, chopped
Instructions
- 1
Get the base ready — cooked, cooled and ideally at room temperature so the toppings sit proud.
- 2
Whisk the yogurt smooth with a pinch of sugar and salt — it should pour slowly off the spoon.
- 3
Arrange the base on the plate and spoon the chutneys across — green for bite, tamarind for sweetness.
- 4
Cover the base with yogurt and let it pool at the edges before the spice shower.
- 5
Top with the yogurt, pomegranate seeds and fresh coriander; serve within five minutes, fork optional.
Chef's tip
Black salt and roasted cumin powder are the chaat backbone.
