Chocolate Trifle Quick
Chocolate custard trifle built in minutes, the emergency dinner-party dessert. Cool and creamy, the kind of dessert that calms a big meal down. Make it a day ahead — it only improves overnight.
Ingredients
- Heavy Cream1/4 cup
- Salta pinch
- Milk1 litre
- Sugar1/3 cup
- Vanilla Extract1 tsp
- Dark Chocolate2 cups, chopped
Optional extras
- Golden Raisins2 tbsp
Instructions
- 1
Chill your bowls and whisk if you are working with cream — cold cream whips better.
- 2
Combine the milk, heavy cream and sugar, stirring until dissolved, then take it off the heat.
- 3
Beat the dark chocolate and sugar together, then ease in the warm milk a little at a time.
- 4
Stir over medium-low until it visibly thickens, eight to ten minutes — patience here is everything.
- 5
Divide between glasses, press clingfilm onto the surface, chill until set, then crown with milk.
Chef's tip
Salt is the missing ingredient in most home desserts — a small pinch makes chocolate and caramel taste more like themselves.
